Vitamin D Deficiencies- Are You At Risk?

It's that time of year again- the temperatures are dropping and the days are getting shorter. UV exposure encourages natural vitamin D production, and you may not be getting enough vitamin D. During the darker winter months many people suffer from vitamin deficiencies because their bodies don't produce as much vitamin D. This can lead to uncomfortable side effects and health problems including tiredness, depression, bone and muscle pain, and along with others.

A 2011 study found that nearly 42% of US adults have a vitamin D deficiency.

The 7 most common risk factors for vitamin D deficiency include:

  • Living far from the equator where there are fewer hours of sunlight.
  • Always wearing sunscreen when going out.
  • Staying indoors.
  • Not eating much fish or dairy.
  • Having dark skin.
  • Being elderly.
  • Being overweight or obese.

Last fall, Vera Roasting Company introduced Sunshine Blend CoffVee to help combat vitamin deficiencies. Each cup of Sunshine Blend CoffVee is infused with resveratrol and contains 400 IU of vitamin D3. The recommended daily intake of Vitamin D is 400-1200 IU a day, so swapping your daily cup of coffee can really make a difference. A blood test is needed to officially diagnose vitamin deficiencies, but eating a well-balanced diet is a good way to prevent them. Try Sunshine Blend CoffVee today!
